raising money with no track record

I'm unemployed and broke. besides winning the lottery, any ideas how I can raise money to make a movie? Also, should I concentrate on making shorts or a feature? They say people will not look at a feature, however only features can sell.

well im not really sure i could help you with the raising money part. [trying to do that myself ]

but i would suggest you make whatever you are making [if you know that it will be halfway decent] in feature length. That way if its well accepted around festivels and such, you might have a chance of getting it released.

i know its a long shot, but hey, better chance of it happening with a feature length movie than with a short.

I agree with Marti, shorts are good to start with as you can do them on smaller budgets and they also give prospective investors some ida of what you're capable of.

unemployed and broke.............why not join some type of film club and use their resources ( or do what i did and go back to college doing a Tv operations course ) Then just plead to the lecturers to use the equipment when its free! This is also agreat place to meet like-minded individuals who can help with a short film. Some of my class will be shooting a short soon and we have access to avids and optimas and pro-tools for sound. ( you also get a nice little student loan in the process) Our plan is to try and win some competitions and use the money for a feature.
I hope this gives you some ideas.........The way i see it mark you have nothing to lose except your giro.
